Pathogens in unhealthy pool water are microorganisms that cause illness.

Unhealthy pool water looks clean because the pathogens are not visible to the naked eye.

Seniors and pool users recovering from illness often have compromised immune systems. They, together with children under five who have immune systems still developing, are at most risk of contracting illnesses from pool water pathogens.

To ensure healthy pool water, the pool’s water treatment plant must be designed, built and operated to relevant European Standards that have been successfully used for over 25 years. There are currently no similar Australian Standards. As a result, public pool water is not healthy.
